Famous senior movie star Ji-mi Kim visited the Fullerton Korean War Veterans Monument site on the 26th and donated $20,000.
Kim Ji-mi, who lives in Pasadena, spoke about her vivid memories of the Korean War from her childhood, saying, “During the war, my parents owned a rice mill, so they cooked rice in front of their house and served it to passing American soldiers. At that time, many American soldiers were dragged away with their hands tied. “I remember feeling grateful while eating,” he recalled.
Ji-mi Kim also said, “I was living in Daejeon at the time, and I remember seeing the corpses of many American soldiers who died in the war lying on the streets,” adding, “Young soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom of the Republic of Korea, which I had no idea about.” “I wanted to participate in the construction of the Korean War Veterans Monument as a way to express my gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives to protect our country,” he added.
The Korean War Veterans Memorial Construction Committee (Chairman Noh Myung-soo) plans to erect five star-shaped sculptures along with a large marker reading ‘Korean War Memorial.’
These sculptures are engraved with the names of all 36,492 U.S. soldiers who fought and died in the Korean War.
